Pulp & Paper
The challenge
Paper mills are continuous-process facilities. They run 24/7 for months or years between scheduled outages, and when they come off-line for maintenance, every hour counts. The operating rhythm is unforgiving: the outage plan specifies the window, and the plant expects to be back in production on schedule regardless of what unexpected scope emerges mid-job.
Mill work adds specific challenges: high-temperature process equipment, corrosive pulp and chemical handling, large mechanical installations integrated with process piping. A welding subcontractor working in a mill needs the discipline to deliver within the window, the adaptability to handle emergent scope, and the safety integration to work around adjacent operating equipment.
What we deliver
- Equipment replacement — dismantling of obsolete units, installation of new equipment with welded tie-ins
- Piping modification and repair — process piping, steam, condensate, and utility lines
- Welded structural support — hangers, racks, and supports for new or replaced equipment
- Shutdown campaign execution — integrated into the mill’s outage programme
Standards and codes
ISO 3834-2— welding quality frameworkEN 13480— metallic industrial pipingEN 1090-2— structural steel execution for supportsISO 45001— safety management- Plant-specific HSE codes and permit-to-work systems
Operating mill integration
Paper mills are typically partially operating even during outage windows — one line down, others running. This means our crews work with active hot work permits, exclusion zones, and adjacency awareness. Our approach:
- Pre-mobilization plant-specific HSE induction
- Daily toolbox talks with the main contractor’s safety lead
- Tight coordination with mill operations on isolation and de-isolation
- Clean handover of completed tie-ins with full test pack documentation
Selected project
Arctic Paper, Sweden — Mill equipment replacement
June-July 2025. Dismantling of obsolete equipment and installation of new units at operating paper mill facility. Delivered via AK Serisė UAB. Two-month outage window execution.
Why mill operators and main contractors bring MIDAS on
- Operating mill experience — Arctic Paper 2025 campaign
- Welded tie-in discipline — test pack per spool, traceability per weld
- Nordic main contractor integration — AK Serisė UAB partnership
- Flexibility on scope that emerges mid-outage
