Context
RECION OY is a Finnish industrial firm active in piping and heavy mechanical work. The June-July 2024 engagement was MIDAS’s first Nordic campaign delivered under a main-contractor model and a key early project in establishing our Finnish market presence.
Prefabrication for an industrial client requires tight tolerances, traceability, and predictable output. Unlike turnaround work, where the pressure is the outage window, prefab pressure is cumulative — so many spools due per week to feed a downstream installation programme, with any delay rippling forward into site delivery dates.
Scope
Two months of prefabrication delivery, June-July 2024:
- Prefabrication of black steel (carbon steel) piping systems
- Cutting, bevelling, fit-up and welding across various pipe diameters
- Fabrication of pipe spools and welded assemblies for subsequent industrial installation
- Documentation and handover per spool
The pipe diameters varied across the scope — standard industrial process piping diameters in carbon steel, typical of a process industry or power facility application.
Approach
Prefab campaigns benefit from process discipline above all else:
- Material staged by spool ID on receipt
- Welder allocation matched to spool class (small-bore TIG specialists vs. larger MAG/SMAW welders)
- Daily output tracking against the delivery schedule
- Documentation generated in parallel with production — test pack filled in as welds are produced, not after the fact
The RECION OY campaign ran cleanly through the two-month window. It also served as the template for how we’d later approach the larger Stegra prefabrication campaign — same disciplines, scaled up.
Outcome
Completed spool production delivered to RECION OY on schedule, with full traceability documentation per spool. The project is the basis of our Finnish track record claim and demonstrated MIDAS’s ability to work through Nordic main contractor structures outside Sweden.
