Estonia — Prefabrication Campaign for Finnish Market

Client: Scanweld (main contractor) Site: Estonian workshop Industry: Industrial piping prefabrication Period: Multi-week campaign Services: Pipe Prefabrication · Industrial Welding

Context

Scanweld is a Nordic welding main contractor active across the Finnish and Baltic process industries. MIDAS delivered a multi-week prefabrication campaign through Scanweld for downstream installation in Finland — producing pipe spools in an Estonian workshop setup.

Cross-border prefabrication campaigns require the full posting and compliance stack: A1 portable documents, CBA-aligned pay, ID checks, and documented qualifications. MIDAS handles this before welders cross the border.

Scope

Multi-week workshop prefab delivered from Estonia into the Finnish installation programme:

  • Pipe spool prefabrication for industrial installations
  • Cutting, bevelling, fit-up, welding, and visual inspection
  • Multi-discipline crew — welders and pipefitters on the same scope
  • Documentation pack per spool (WPS, weld map, traceability)
  • Load-out for transport to the Finnish installation site

Approach

Cross-border posting. Polish welders posted into Estonia under the A1 regime, compliant with Estonian labour and tax requirements. Scanweld integrated the crew into their production flow; MIDAS supervision handled day-to-day crew management.

Welder allocation. Carbon steel process piping, TIG root / MAG fill-cap methodology. Welders qualified to EN ISO 9606-1 across the applicable diameter and thickness ranges.

Documentation discipline. Test pack per spool — WPS referenced, weld map filled in, welders signed off, visual inspection recorded. Pack travelled with the spool to the Finnish installation site.

Outcome

The Estonia prefab campaign demonstrated MIDAS’s cross-border posting capability — deploying a compliant Polish welding crew into a Baltic workshop under a Swedish main contractor to produce documented output for Finnish installation. This is the multi-jurisdiction mode Nordic contractors need when their own crew capacity is over-allocated.
